OAPTAR Strengthens Project Management Capacity through MySDG Workshop

OAPTAR participated in the MySDG NGO Project Management Workshop held in Kuala Lumpur on 23 July 2026. The one-day capacity-building programme brought together

representatives from non-governmental and civil society organisations to strengthen the

knowledge, tools and systems required for effective project planning, implementation,

monitoring and sustainability.

The workshop covered the full project-management cycle, beginning with Theory of Change and progressing through project charters, planning canvases, workplans and Gantt charts, stakeholder mapping, risk management, monitoring and evaluation, donor reporting, organisational learning and exit planning. Through group discussions and practical exercises, participants applied these tools to real implementation contexts and exchanged experiences from their respective organisations.

Representing OAPTAR, our President, Cindy Biding contributed to the session on the Theory of Change by drawing upon OAPTAR’s experience in designing and implementing integrated, community-based programmes. She shared how a well-developed Theory of Change can provide a clear line of sight between identified needs, programme activities, immediate outputs, intended outcomes and longer-term impact.

The discussion reinforced OAPTAR’s approach of designing programmes not merely around the delivery of activities, but around the meaningful and sustainable changes those activities are intended to produce. This is particularly important in OAPTAR’s work with adolescents, families and communities, where local ownership, coordinated implementation and long-term capacity are central to sustainability.

The workshop also provided a valuable platform for peer learning among participating

organisations. Participants examined common implementation challenges, explored practical approaches to managing risks and resources, and considered how evidence and learning can be incorporated throughout the project cycle.

OAPTAR appreciates Yayasan MySDG for providing this capacity-building opportunity. The knowledge and practical tools gained from the workshop will contribute to the continued strengthening of OAPTAR’s governance, programme-management and monitoring systems as the organisation expands its community-based work.

community impact, ensuring that programmes are not only well delivered, but are also

measurable, accountable and capable of creating change that endures.
