Engaging Youths in Prevention: Meaningful Dialogue - Project RESIST

1 min read

Recently, OAPTAR had the pleasure of engaging with a group of seven university students developing Project RESIST—Resilience, Education, Support, Intervention and Stronger Together.

Rather than approaching the session as a conventional question-and-answer interview, we invited the students to reflect on what they already knew and guided them to clarify the problem they hope to address, their proposed solution, planned activities, target group and intended outcomes.

The discussion also introduced key principles of prevention science, including risk and protective factors, strengthening life skills and building resilience among young people.

By the end of the session, the student team leader remarked that all his questions had been answered—even though we had not answered them one by one. That is the value of meaningful dialogue: not simply providing answers, but helping young minds think critically and translate ideas into purposeful action.

OAPTAR is always encouraged to see young people taking an interest in prevention and community wellbeing. We look forward to seeing how Project RESIST develops.
